Background: I just wanted a nice setup without having to worry about upgradeability if I need to add additional components. I have multiple Home Theater in the Box systems at home and found it just doesn’t fit my needs over many years. I also find the combination options between receiver and speakers are overwhelming and wasn’t sure what best to use with what. I am also not a very knowledgeable audio/video guy but I know what I like and know when I see or hear it.
Summary: I have had this unit for 1+ months now and have only used the most basic features but I am impressed with the receiver and speakers. Both components seems on the high end of most. One reason I chose the Denon 3310 is because of the network connection. These days everything is network work enabled and it only seems logical that I should look for one in the electronic I buy since it’ll help with upgradeability and usually comes with additional applications.
Denon 3310 Receiver – very nice. Lots of features I have yet to use. I especially like the internet radio option. I wished it had Netflix app and additional apps like my Samsung LCD TV. Lots of connection options on the back. I liked the video up-convert option although I am not sure how much that is better than my PS3 if I play a DVD through that.
KEF 2005.3 speakers – I like I said don’t have technical knowledge or appreciate the fine things with audio but I know these speakers are very good. Setup was easy. I was a little confused on the setup initially when I could find anything that indicate which were surround speakers or main speakers. I finally came to the conclusion all speakers were the same except for center speaker. I mounted mine on the wall. Like the shiny black color. Size-wise I think this is as big as I like.
CON – There’s not much to complain about hear except for two minor issue: The subwoofer has its own power switch. I find I forget sometimes to turn it off after a movies and would say on for days before I remember the light was on.
The price is a little high but is worth it considering the speakers itself is the same as the package price. Basically you’re getting the receiver @ high discounted price.
Overall – I am impressed with this combo option for my small game/movie room. So much I a considering a similar but higher speaker option for my living room.
