I recently upgraded my home theater to 7.1 and went with a great in wall installation for the rear 4. Unfortunately, my wife liked the clutter reduction and “requested” that I ditch the huge tower LCR speakers as well… I investigated several soundbar solutions to add to my existing setup and finding unpowered LCR bars was not easy until I found the Polk SurroundBar 50.
I bought mine through the Amazon Warehouse and it arrived in a truly shredded box, but the contents were in perfect order. Hookup was simple, although the included wires are too long for my install and a little on the scrawny side, but they are well sheathed and color coded for easy install. The variety of mounting/stand solutions was very nice and allowed me to place the bar on the console under my 65″ LCD without a hitch.
Setup and calibration was simple, but as others (including the vendor) have indicated they are a little bright and you MUST have subwoofer support if you want an accurate experience. Surround is as iffy as I would expect, no matter the mojo, but since I was looking for LCR it was perfect. I ended up wiring the SurroundBar’s surrounds to give me a 9.1 setup and it does an admirable job.
Soundbars ARE a compromise – I doubt anyone’s bar will give you the same surround experience as a discrete speaker system. If that is what you’re hoping for, then get 5+ speakers and be done with it. However, if you’re looking for a single speaker solution to give you a reasonable portrayal and you already have an amplifier then look no further. I really like this system. It has enough power ot make a home theater, and it has more features than the pioneers do. I tried sevearl brands but aiwa seems ot be the best. I like aiwa’s multi-amp idea where the sub has it’s own dedicated amp. and so do the mid/tweetwers so the sound is more clear and the subs don’t interfere with the hig/mid clarity and the bass is lesss boomy. I’m using these speakers in a room that is not my main “theater” so I was interested in something relatively inexpensive from a reputable company that didn’t sound tinny and weak. I was actually surprised by how full and rich these speakers sound, as I expected much less for the price. They’re not likely to be mistaken for a commercial theater sound system, but they’re still a very good value. Highs are bright and the sub provides more than adequate fill for an open floor plan room. I had read at least one review that mentioned a constant hum from the sub. I can confirm this, but it isn’t at a level that I can hear unless I’m within a few feet of it when the system isn’t being used (for a movie, TV, or music) and then only in the absence any other normal house/neighborhood sounds. Background: I just wanted a nice setup without having to worry about upgradeability if I need to add additional components. I have multiple Home Theater in the Box systems at home and found it just doesn’t fit my needs over many years. I also find the combination options between receiver and speakers are overwhelming and wasn’t sure what best to use with what. I am also not a very knowledgeable audio/video guy but I know what I like and know when I see or hear it.
Summary: I have had this unit for 1+ months now and have only used the most basic features but I am impressed with the receiver and speakers. Both components seems on the high end of most. One reason I chose the Denon 3310 is because of the network connection. These days everything is network work enabled and it only seems logical that I should look for one in the electronic I buy since it’ll help with upgradeability and usually comes with additional applications.
Denon 3310 Receiver – very nice. Lots of features I have yet to use. I especially like the internet radio option. I wished it had Netflix app and additional apps like my Samsung LCD TV. Lots of connection options on the back. I liked the video up-convert option although I am not sure how much that is better than my PS3 if I play a DVD through that.
KEF 2005.3 speakers – I like I said don’t have technical knowledge or appreciate the fine things with audio but I know these speakers are very good. Setup was easy. I was a little confused on the setup initially when I could find anything that indicate which were surround speakers or main speakers. I finally came to the conclusion all speakers were the same except for center speaker. I mounted mine on the wall. Like the shiny black color. Size-wise I think this is as big as I like.
CON – There’s not much to complain about hear except for two minor issue: The subwoofer has its own power switch. I find I forget sometimes to turn it off after a movies and would say on for days before I remember the light was on.
The price is a little high but is worth it considering the speakers itself is the same as the package price. Basically you’re getting the receiver @ high discounted price.
Overall – I am impressed with this combo option for my small game/movie room. So much I a considering a similar but higher speaker option for my living room.

Dolby digital is excellent. 6 speakers (6.1) for a big total of 340 watts. The subwoofer put your house in an earthquake. The pp.mica woofer technology is excellente for reproduce a thunder sound with no distorsion. Many options (clear-vocal-soft and…) Movie equalizer and manual Eq who allows choosing type of your sound quality. The subwoofer switch is good for choosing the bass power (off-mid and max).

Overview:
Only my second Home Theatre in Box (HTIB) in 8 yrs, never used separate components, not a sound audiophile, just wanted good sound for DVDs. Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX589W, purchased on 6/25/10 (Friday afternoon) for 9 and signed up for Amazon Prime to get free 2 day shipping. Received product on 6/29/10 (Tuesday afternoon_. Everything in the box was wrapped neatly and carefully. Installation was relatively easy, speakers, wires, and receiver were all color coded, making intallation quick. S-Air rear speakers were also used and worked fine. Used the quick setup CD (great step by step guide) and finished install and microphone sound calibration in about 1 hour. Quality of the material is not too great, many plastic, but the look is very sleek and contemporary.
Setup:
Connected satellite box directly to my Sony Bravia TV via antenna & RCA cable (no HDMI/Optical jacks available on box). I then used an HDMI and optical cable from TV to new receiver. 2 tall boy speakers, center speaker an subwoofer up front with 2 rear speakers via S-Air in the rear of living room on countertop.
Pros:
-Ease of installation and setup, price.
-Able to sync TV & receiver, “1 touch play” plays DVD with one button, either when both units are off, or when tv is on satellite. Returns to satellite TV when receiver is turned off.
-Upconversion of DVD’s to 1080p is marvelous, superb picture and sound quality.
-By pressing the “Audio” button on remote, allowed 3.2.1 channel stereo and obtained vocals from rear speakers when listening to music.
-Subwoofer has plenty of power, I enjoy the dynamic boost.
-Allows for complete adjustment of picture quality and screen types
-Great value for the money (9)
Cons:
-Volume on system speakers are very low when using satellite TV (need to turn up to almost max, to have decent sound). However, the sound is normal when using the TV Speakers alone. Can’t seem to remedy this problem yet.
-No volume control on subwoofer.
-Unable to sync with satellite box to change channels while using satellite.
-Menu to change functions is not very user friendly (very outdated text/fonts/icons and menu styling).
Summary:
Overall, I am very, not completely, but very satisfied with this product. Great bang for it’s buck. Super great when watching DVD movies or DVD music. If you are looking for a simple, yet good quality system this is definitely the one.
